Anthropic discloses nearly $900 billion in future infrastructure commitments in IPO filing
Anthropic PBC said in its IPO filing that it expects to commit nearly $900 billion to future spending on servers, buildings and power as it accelerates its infrastructure buildout. The figure sits well above the liabilities that investors can directly see on the company’s balance sheet, according to the report. Details of the planned spending appear in the notes to Anthropic’s financial statements rather than in the headline balance-sheet figures. Those off-balance-sheet obligations include future lease contracts and purchase agreements tied to data centers, power and GPUs. David Trainer, chief executive of investment research firm New Constructs, described these commitments as a large form of what he called “hidden debt.” He said the company must spend heavily on training, inference and energy, pointing to the scale of capital required to support Anthropic’s AI operations.
